The LPAR tool makes it very easy to administer PowerVM environments. Regardless of the size of the environment, most tasks can be carried out in a fraction of a second. Even non-specialists can get started with PowerVM administration with the LPAR tool. However, the enormous range of functions means that the LPAR tool is also interesting for very experienced PowerVM administrators.
The LPAR tool supports any number of HMCs, managed systems, LPARs and virtual I/O servers (depending on the license selected). Environments with hundreds of managed systems and thousands of LPARs can be managed extremely easily with the LPAR tool.
The aim of this tutorial is to demonstrate the administration of PowerVM in addition to the installation and configuration of the LPAR tool. So that the reader can safely try out the commands shown in their own PowerVM environment, the examples shown are mainly read-only and do not result in any changes. Examples that result in a change are expressly indicated. However, in this case too, the examples have been chosen so that no changes are made to existing LPARs.
During reading the tutorial, it is strongly recommended that you try out the examples yourself.
