The two network ports of the BMC of a 7063-CR2 HMC are set to DHCP by default. If one of these ports is in a network with a DHCP server, the BMC is automatically assigned an IP address. The manual configuration of a static IP address is then not necessary.

Typically, however, there is no DHCP server or the use of a static IP address is expressly desired. In this case, at least one of the two network ports must be configured manually. Since the BMC cannot be reached via the network, the configuration must be done via the HMC console.

Note: For newer HMC versions, the BMC’s IP address can also be configured via the HMC GUI or the HMC CLI.
