AIX Toolbox for Open Source Software

Open source or GNU software is also often used on AIX systems. These are offered by IBM via the AIX Toolbox for Open Source Software. In contrast to software included directly in AIX, the RPM format known from Linux is used instead of the AIX BFF format. The AIX Toolbox for Open Source Software contains a wide range of software, including:

    • A set of tools for software development, such as gcc, g++, git, subversion, etc.
    • Programming languages such as Perl, Python, PHP and others.
    • Libraries such as zlib, glib2, libxml2, ncurses, etc.
    • Shells: Bash, Tcsh, Zsh
    • And much more

Access to the open source software is possible via the URL https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/aix-toolbox-open-source-software-overview:
