To update AIX or install a software package like OpenSSH, you need the installation commands and the software itself. IBM uses a number of different download options, depending on the specific software you want to download. In some cases, it is not entirely clear where you can download the software you are looking for from IBM.

The aim of this chapter is to introduce the different options for downloading software (including the URLs). This is not about how the software can be downloaded most easily and quickly (e.g. through SUMA). This is discussed elsewhere.
