8.5.18. Changing the HA Mode between Failover and Load Sharing

It is possible to switch between the 3 HA modes standby, auto and sharing during runtime. This has already been exploited above, when adding and removing VLANs or trunking adapters.

The following table shows the various options for ha_mode on the two SEAs and the resulting status of the two SEAs:

The table shows that load sharing is only active, if both SEAs have set the ha_mode attribute to sharing. In all other cases failover is active!

The HA mode can be changed by changing the ha_mode attribute with the command “vios chdev“, e.g.:

$ vios chdev ms05-vio1 ent44 ha_mode=sharing
