7.7.6. Manual Activation of a vNIC Backing Device

With the command “lpar actvnicbkdev” (activate vNIC backing device) the administrator can activate any (available, in the operational status) vNIC backing device at any time. It should be noted that the automatic priority failover is automatically deactivated, when manually activating a vNIC backing device.

$ lpar actvnicbkdev aix22 6 P1-C6-T1
$

In addition to the slot number of the vNIC adapter, the corresponding vNIC adapter must be specified. Here again either the associated logical SR-IOV port or the physical SR-IOV port can be specified, either with ID or with a unique suffix of the physical location code.

The automatic priority failover was automatically deactivated as described above:
