A virtual Ethernet adapter can of course also be removed again. When removing a virtual Ethernet adapter for an active LPAR, only a virtual Ethernet adapter which is not used for the RMC connection to the HMCs can be removed! In addition, the virtual Ethernet adapter in question must not be in use and the associated Ethernet device must have been removed from the kernel.

If these requirements are met, the virtual Ethernet adapter can be removed using “lpar rmeth” (remove ethernet) by specifying the virtual slot number of the virtual Ethernet adapter:

$ lpar rmeth aix22 6
