Virtual Media Repository

PowerVM supports so-called virtual media repositories, also called virtual media libraries (or virtual optical media libraries), on virtual I/O servers. Virtual media (copies of CDs or DVDs) can be stored in a Virtual Media Repository. LPARs can access these virtual media using a virtual optical drive. This enables, for example, the easy installation of LPARs. With the help of virtual media, updates (TL updates or SP updates) or even upgrades (migration from one AIX version to another AIX version) can also be carried out. Another use is to create mksysbs of an LPAR on a virtual medium. Of course, an LPAR can then also be restored from the virtual medium using the generated mksysb (recovery).
