7063-CR1

The Model 7063-CR1 is the first POWER-based successor to the physical Intel HMCs. In addition to the switch from an Intel to a POWER architecture, the most significant difference is probably the introduction of a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC).

The baseboard management controller is a small computer within a computer (HMC) that can be used to control and monitor the HMC hardware. The BMC has its own IP address and enables remote access to the HMC even if the HMC’s operating system is not running.

The 7063-CR1 HMC has the following hardware components:

    • 1 POWER8 6 core processor
    • 32 GB DDR4-RAM (4 times 8 GB)
    • two SATA disks with 2 TB
    • two USB 3.0 ports (front)
    • two USB 3.0 ports (rear)
    • four 10 Gb Ethernet ports (10Gb/1Gb/100Mb)
    • one 1 Gb Ethernet for BMC management

The minimal HMC version is V8.870.0.
