Immediately after booting, the screen, language and keyboard settings can be changed. The user has 30 seconds to do this before the next configuration is automatically continued.
The desired setting can be selected using the cursor keys or the TAB and Alt-Tab keys. Then the “Next” element must be activated using the TAB key and confirmed by pressing Enter.
Note: If the keys do not seem to respond, please move the mouse pointer into the dialog window.
If the current setting is correct, the menu item “Exit and do not run this program again” should be selected. This prevents the dialog from being shown again the next time the HMC is booted and thus speeds up the HMC startup process.
The first thing you can do is set the screen resolution. To do this, “Change to a new display configuration” should be selected. With “Next” you can then select the supported resolutions.
The supported screen resolutions are displayed. Normally you should use the default (auto detect).
If the resolution has been changed, this will only have an effect after the HMC is restarted. The displayed dialog allows the resolution to be changed at the next restart (“Allow changes to take effect on the next console startup“) or immediately (“Restart the console now to allow changes to take effect“) by rebooting the HMC.
If the screen resolution is suitable, “Do not run this program again” should be selected. This saves 30 seconds on the next reboot.
Next, the language for the HMC can be selected. To do this, the option “Change to a new language configuration” must be selected.
Note: We recommend sticking with the default.
First, the desired language can be selected.
Next, national characteristics of the selected language, the so-called locale, can be selected.
Once the language has been selected, “Do not run this program again” should be selected. Otherwise, the language selection will be started again the next time the HMC is rebooted.
Lastly, you can choose the keyboard layout. If the default “English US keyboard” is correct, the keyboard configuration can be completed with “Exit and do not run this program again“. If a different layout is desired, “Change to a new keyboard layout” must be selected. In both cases the selection must be confirmed with “Next”.
The desired layout should be selected from the supported keyboard layouts and confirmed with “Apply”.
If the selected keyboard layout fits, the restart of the keyboard selection dialog should be deactivated when booting (“Do not run this program again“).
This completes the configuration of the screen, language and keyboard.
Normally, the programs for configuring the screen, language and keyboard should not be started every time the HMC is rebooted, as this unnecessarily extends the boot time by around 90 seconds. If the selected settings are correct, restarting the configuration dialogs when booting should be deactivated.
