Adding a NIM client to a NIM environment requires appropriate configuration on both the NIM client and the NIM master. On the NIM client, configuration information such as the NIM master’s ID and name is stored in the /etc/niminfo file. On the NIM master, one of the following NIM objects must be created for a NIM client:
dataless – NIM clients with local paging and dump device, but remote / and /usr file systems
diskless – NIM clients with only remote resources
standalone – NIM client with local file systems
vios – Virtual I/O server as NIM client
wpar – WPAR as NIM client
The two standard cases are probably standalone for AIX LPARs and vios for PowerVM virtual I/O servers.
